Semi-permanent make up (SPM) is becoming a very popular treatment and many words have been said and written about it. Known as micro-pigmentation, SPM is the way to introduce a desired pigment into the skin via needle.
An ideal shape of eyebrows does not exist. One can’t go by fashion trends, as they change fast. In the 1920s eyebrows were thin and downward pointing whereas in the 2000’s fuller, bolder shapes are in fashion. Different faces have individual features and proportions. So, a therapist should create a harmony, the most natural look which brings out beauty and hides any flaws.
DECISION TO HAVE BROWS DONE
Gone are those days when a cosmetic pencil was the only solution for thinning eyebrows. Younger women will look for their own eyebrow enhancement; the advantage of having SPM applied is saved time and money.
Hair strokes method, which has become very popular, imitates own natural hair growth, light and elegant lines are created in places where own hair is missing or very sparse. Whenever the treatment is done technically correct and the colour is chosen right, the result will look very natural and like real hair. Soft powdered method is a recent technique, whereby one can’t see any lines or ‘frames’ (trend of the past), the borders of eyebrows are invisible, starting from the very light shade in the beginning of the eyebrow and finishing darker in the end. It is realistic way of creating an eyebrow volume and colour.
ADDITIONAL TREATMENT, CORRECTION, AND RE-TOUCH
Additional treatment is a procedure that is conducted one month after the first application of SPM. Usually it is included in the price and is required in order to perfect the colour and shape of the eyebrows, as during the healing stage some colour might be lost. Re-touch is usually conducted after around one year from the first eyebrow SPM. If you ever hear that eyebrow SPM would last up to five years, this is misleading information. Organic and inorganic pigments, which make up colours for eyebrow SPM, being natural, usually fade after some time as a result of skin type, cell renewal processes, sun exposure and other factors.
ARE TATTOOS AND SPM THE SAME THING?
No, they are not. The main difference between SPM and tattoos, is that in SPM the depth of the penetration of the needle reaches the epidermal layer barely touching the dermis. Tattoos can last a lifetime, whereas SPM of eyebrows will last from one to two years gradually fading with time.
WHY IS SPM TREATMENT HIGHLY PRICED?
Getting the right treatment may seem like a pricey affair, but if you take into consideration training and equipment, the quality of needles and pigment you will find that it is well worth the price.
IS SPM PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
Light discomfort could occur, but usually two different types of anaesthetics are used during the treatment. All clients have different pain threshold, however from general feedback, the treatment is not very painful.
