Recent polls have showed that the greatest love letter of all time belongs to the one that Johnny Cash wrote for his wife June Carter.
After the successful 2005 movie Walk the Line, directed by James Mangold, everybody knows about the nature of the relationship between Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter. Both were married to different people and fate brought them together through their love of music.
Johnny Cash is well known for the music and iconic songs that he left us with, and as if his lyrics were not enough of an indication, this letter shows just how much thought he put behind his words.
Reading this sentimental letter, we can’t help but stop and think about how after years together, their flame was still as strong as ever. Makes one wonder; maybe true love does exist after all.
The couple got married in 1968 after Johnny begged her to marry him on stage, the 2005 film had their relationship as a central theme and walks the audience through the trials and tribulations of their relationship. They were married for over 30 years and Cash gave this letter to June on her 65th Birthday. June Carter passed away in May 2003. Johnny Cash shortly followed 4 months after; he had been ill before June died, but many still claim that he died of a broken heart.
Happy Birthday Princess,
We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each other’s minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.
But once in a while, like today, I meditate on it and realise how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.
Happy Birthday Princess.
