There are two types of people in the world on Monday mornings; those who are full of beans and ready to face whatever may come their way that day, and those who simply cannot function, where even the thought of the dreaded Monday morning alarm triggers feelings of stress and apprehension. Does this sound familiar?

The good news is that with a few small changes, it is possible for everyone to beat the Monday morning blues and enjoy a great start to a positive and productive week.

PLAN YOUR MONDAY ON A FRIDAY

There’s nothing worse than getting to work on a Monday morning and feeling overwhelmed with all the unfinished tasks that have slowly built up over the previous week. Overcome this by organising the work that you’ve got to do on Monday whilst you’re still at work on Friday. Whether it’s by writing out a fresh to-do list, answering and clearing up your email inbox or organising your diary for the following week, planning your Monday on a Friday will help you to feel more prepared to tackle whatever you’ve got to do right from the start on Monday morning.

GIVE YOURSELF SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO ON MONDAY

Even if you love your job, it can sometimes still be hard to get going on a Monday morning, especially after enjoying a relaxing weekend. Giving yourself something to look forward to on Monday, no matter how small, can instantly help you feel more motivated and positive about the week ahead. This could be something as simple as planning to wear your favourite outfit to work, baking something for the office to enjoy, or trying out a new place for lunch with your colleague, where you can catch up and enjoy each other’s company.

SPEND QUALITY TIME DOING THE THINGS YOU LOVE AT THE WEEKEND

Don’t let your weekend simply be an extension of your working week. Instead, use the weekend to unwind and recharge in time for Monday morning. If your job allows you, turn off any work email notifications on your phone during the weekend to give your mind a chance to switch off and relax. Spend some quality time with those you love, and do the things you enjoy doing together. Whether that’s catching up on your favourite TV series guilt-free, enjoying a meal out with your family and friends, or simply spending some time outdoors, enjoying a picnic in the sun. You probably spend enough time constrained by schedules and structuring your time according to work activities such as meetings or deadlines during the week, so make the most out of being in control of your own time to do the things you love.

THINK OF MONDAY AS A FRESH START

Much like the beginning of a new year, each week brings with it the opportunity to start afresh. Mondays are a great time to find your motivation and set new goals for the week ahead. These could be your work goals, fitness goals or the chance to try out something new, and plan what you would like to achieve over the rest of the week. Forget about the things that did not go your way in the previous week, turn over a new page and get an early night on Sunday to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to jump out of bed on Monday morning!
