The scorching summer heat has well and truly set in, and with a few more months of summer
left to go, energy levels can be at an all time low. The good news is that with a few simple
tweaks to your day, it is possible to improve your energy levels. Here are 5 different ways on
how to help you beat the heat and give your energy levels a well-needed boost this summer

KEEP HYDRATED AT ALL TIMES
‘Drink more water’ is possibly the most boring and repetitive
piece of advice ever given. Have a headache? Drink more water.
Want to lose weight? Drink more water. Dry skin? Drink more
water. However, drinking more water is the answer to a lot of
problems – including a lack of energy in summer.
Since your brain is mostly made up of water, keeping yourself
hydrated allows you to think, focus, and concentrate better on
whatever you may be doing, whilst also giving you an energy
boost and fighting off fatigue. Your body is naturally dehydrated
when you wake up from a long sleep, even more so after a warm
summer night, so start your day by drinking a glass of water
and always keep a bottle of water with you whilst you’re out and
about in the sun.

Increase-Your-Energy
AVOID CAFFEINE – CONSIDER OTHER OPTIONS
Whilst caffeine can have a dehydrating effect on the body, it’s a
good idea to consider other options instead of reaching for your
morning espresso. Peppermint tea, lemon and ginger tea, fruit
juice, a delicious smoothie or even a cool glass of refreshing
lemon water with ice, are all great options to kickstart your morning                               or boost your performance throughout the day.
KEEP YOUR MEALS LIGHT
Eating too much food or food that is too heavy can weigh you
down and can also increase your body temperature. Opt for
lighter meals that have a lower amount of calories to help you
feel less sluggish in summer. Food such as a tuna rice salad,
or a caprese pasta salad with fresh basil, cherry tomatoes,
and pieces of mozzarella are two great options to keep things
light.

BOOST YOUR ENERGY ON HOT SUMMER DAYS
TREAT YOURSELF TO REFRESHING, ENERGY-BOOSTING
SNACKS!
The only thing worse than feeling hot and drained on a hot
summer’s day, is feeling hot, drained, and hungry. Preparing a
few healthy and cooling snacks to treat yourself throughout
the day, will not only help keep you refreshed, but it’s also a
good way to maintain your energy levels. Summer fruits with
a high water content such as watermelons, peaches, plums,
apples, and oranges are all great snacks that are packed
with vitamins, antioxidants, and water that will help
keep you hydrated and replace the energy lost through
the heat.
KEEP ACTIVE
Whilst the 35 °C+ heat may not motivate you to work out
in summer, keeping moderately active is a good way
of combatting low energy levels. Choose the place a nd
time of day that you exercise wisely and stick to the
times when the temperature is at its lowest – early in
the morning or late in the evening.
A brisk evening walk whilst enjoying the sea breeze
or an exercise class in an air conditioned studio, are
great ways of incorporating exercise into your summer
routine to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle – which
is ultimately what your body needs to produce the right
amount of energy all year round!
