Working with a number of people for around 8-10 hours of your day is not always a walk in the park. Whilst there are those who go about their work in the quietest and influencing of ways, there are always some personalities that seem to stand out from the crowd. Recognise any from your working environment?
This person goes out of their way to find out the latest office dirt and is completely fluent in water-cooler chatter. This can be credited to the fact that their head slowly peeks out from behind their screens every time something or someone interesting comes in.
We know that popping in some headphones and listening to music helps some people work, but there are ways to go about it without infuriating your colleague along the way. If the person behind you finds themselves having to roll up pieces of paper and throw them at you (no matter how fun that may sound) to get your attention, you have a problem.
Malta is but a mere speck on the circumference of the earth; that with the fact that as a few years ago, the average family was anywhere from 7-12 members large means that it is highly likely that you are working with a relative. You might not have known about them before, but upon mentioning that you’re from Qormi, the inevitable question pops up: “Ta’ min jafukom intom? Ta’ kataħlu? Iii mela naħseb tiġi minni”, and so a part of your family tree which you’ve never even heard of starts to magically unfold itself.
The person that all non-morning people loathe. Coming into the office early with a huge grin on their face beckoning you a great morning and a wonderful working day. Mustering up the courage to get out of bed and dragging yourself to the office was enough of a challenge; having someone shove how great their morning is while you’re sulkily sipping your coffee is just unnecessary at this point.
You see this person come in, smile at them and think to yourself “Ok, they seem to be in a good mood … today might not be so bad after all”, and then they open their mouth and all the wishful thinking turns to void. Every word they utter brings you closer to the brink of insanity and all you can do is pray that they call in sick tomorrow; you never thought a person could get on your nerves so much- boy oh boy were you wrong!
